Avances en el estudio empírico de la experiencia estética
Resumen
Some advances in the study on empirical aesthetics
This paper tries to point out the kind of experimental investigation that will allow us to explain the aesthetical experience. The field of empirical aesthetics has a long story in psychology and within its tradition we embark in a wide research. The first group of experiments tries to determine how art education influences the memory trace produced by different types of aesthetical stimuli; thereafter we studied the relation between the values of aesthetic judgments and the familiarity of the stimuli in order to have an objective indicator of the aesthetic impact. Another objective indicator comes from an experiment carried out with magnetoencephalography, which shows that “aesthetics” can be hypothetically considered as an attribute perceived by means of a particular brain processing system, in which the prefrontal cortex seems to play a key role.
Key words: Psychology, art, beauty, empirical aesthetics, aesthetic judgments, aesthetic education, perception, memory, cognitive neuroscience, magnetoencephalography.
